Is science detrimental?

"Science" is amoral. It is neither good nor bad. How science is applied is where morality comes into play. The Nazi's in WWII did lots of scientific studies, but the way they used people for test subjects and the uses they put knowledge to were evil. The only way science could go more negative than positive is in the uses made of science's discoveries. Science is usually held in checks/balances by the society around it, if society gives science more and more power without any checks or balances then the chance for misuse will become greater. I personally believe science must be restrained by some kind of moral guidance, especially as we get more and greater capabilities. If we don't curb it we will find that some applications of science will tend to devalue human life. That is my opinion anyway.
