Why did the first settlers move to Jamestown, Virginia in the 1600s?

There was no 'Virginia' in the 1600s. (There was no United States at all) It was considered the east coast of new world and they wanted to settle there, to start a colony which they named Jamestown which in turn failed because of the mistrust between the native americans and the settlers.
