Yes, the medicine used to numb your mouth and your pain medicine work in completely different ways and you won't get any negative interactions between them. Its probably a good idea to do it the way you're planning to, just take the oral pain medicine as soon as you start to feel the numbness going away, that way it should be taking effect by the time the pain sets in.
