What is it with the bland decals these days?

Why is it that the new "fad" in police vehicular decal designing is very simple, bland, black, white, and grey decals? I personally hate it, and prefer to design my decals with a good flair of color. Does anyone else actually like this idea of making the colors flat, plain, and overly simplistic?
